Infographic – Accelerating Cloud in Asia Pacific by Microsoft

This blog is about technology and digital marketing. Legacy of a Startup Software engineer, who has moved over the years to marketing. I’ve started @ Microsoft 6 years ago, a bit before all the industry push/trend to the cloud. Back 3 years ago, I was all over Live Mesh, remember this video? Today, based in Singapore, I’m now leading the Digital marketing for the Asia and Pacific region, and so have the opportunity to share with you my journey to the Cloud.

As discussed few weeks ago, in a post related to Social Media optimization: a great way to share a lot of data and make it consumable is to leverage charticle or infographic. The latest one release below is a infographic sharing a research done in collaboration between Sprinboard Research and Microsoft, showing the “accelerating cloud in Asia and Pacific”.

Also, some take away from this research:

  • 49% of respondents in Asia are planning Cloud implementation within the next 18 months
  • All respondents in Australia, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand and the Philippines said they have cloud adoption plans
  • Majority of ASEAN respondents believe North American and Europe are more advanced in cloud understanding and adoption.
  • 48% of APAC organisations rated themselves moderate to low level of understanding between public and private clouds and this impacts how they adopt cloud.
  • Korea for example is the lagged of cloud adoption with only 15% using cloud whilst Australia has 35%.

Microsoft Tag secures lead as the preferred 2-D barcode solution for publishers

The 2D Barcode industry is increasing on full speed mode. You can notice more and more implementations of 2D Barcode campaigns in the publishing industry, the latest example with Allure. Microsoft Tag is now the leader is this industry. The numbers below speak by themselves: 

  • 1 billion Tags have been printed in the past four months, bringing the total to
    2 billion Tags printed since its January 2009 launch.
  • The number of Tag users per month increased three fold in the first quarter since emerging from beta in May; the number of Tags scanned per month increased four fold during the same time period.
  • To date, more than 100,000 Tag accounts have been set up to add interactive digital experiences to brand advertising and marketing campaigns.
  • Since August, Tag has been used in more than 100 million magazine issues.
  • In the largest known barcode campaign to date, Allure had 450,000 scans, using Microsoft Tag for its annual Free Stuff Giveaway issue in August

Microsoft Tag and Allure Magazine, one of the best 2D barcode campaigns!

clip_image002Microsoft Tag and Allure magazine recently concluded an astounding that resulted in 444,572 Tag scans. This is the largest Microsoft Tag campaign to date and a significant increase in scans compared to other 2D barcode campaigns. JAGTAG was previously considered to have the biggest 2D barcode campaign with 100,000 scans during a Sports Illustrated campaign earlier this year.

Microsoft Tag is a new kind of customizable 2D barcode that can be displayed anywhere and connects almost anything in the real world to information, entertainment, and interactive experiences on your mobile phone. They can be black and white or color, and customized with a logo, product image or other design. Tags are scanned using the free downloadable Microsoft Tag Reader on your smartphone.

In past years, Allure used their website as the entry point for their annual giveaway, but this year Allure added Microsoft Tag to the mix. The August issue included 39 Microsoft Tags that allowed readers to enter any one of the 159 giveaways of beauty products worth $725,000.

Where do I get all this love from? Microsoft Tag announces the Heat Map!

You can find a lot of information about Microsoft Tag on this blog. I like to share great product features. Microsoft related or not.  Few days ago, we’ve just announced a new feature: The Microsoft Tag Heat Map which allows users to get more specific information about their Microsoft Tag scans such as Where were they scanned? How many time?

Microsoft Tag owners are able to scroll over the world and dive deeper in to an appropriate location. The two screenshots represent where did happen the scans related to the Microsoft Tag on my business card. I can deep dive to a street level to see where people find my Tag. As you can see, a lot of scans happen in Paris, wondering why …

New Microsoft Tag Video

I’ve been working now for almost two years on Microsoft Tag. If you’ve never heard about this cool product, have a look to the video that will give you a quick overview of its potential:

Work hard play hard with Microsoft Mouse Mischief

Besides Microsoft Hohm and Microsoft Tag, I also work on a great project for schools called: Microsoft Mouse Mischief.

For some time now, Microsoft has been involved in an ongoing dialogue with teachers, school administrators and students to explore how they can best enhance learning experiences. They discovered, regardless of geographic location, that students are excited about the use of technology in the classroom, and engagement and participation increases with improved access to education technology.

A common challenge Microsoft heard from teachers was that in many classrooms—especially ones without the budget to support technology access for every student—many students didn’t have the opportunity to engage directly with technology.  Additionally, they learned that many teachers already used and love PowerPoint, but using it by itself as a presentation tool limited interactivity and collaboration.  A solution was needed to turn students from passive observers to active participants.

Last April, Microsoft announced the official release of Mouse Mischief—a solution that lets teachers create interactive presentations making classroom learning more engaging.   Mouse Mischief integrates with PowerPoint 2010 and 2007, allowing teachers to create multiple-choice, matching and drawing question slides that students, each with their own computer mouse, can answer on a shared screen.   You can watch a video demo here that explains more about how it works.

Microsoft originally created and piloted Mouse Mischief as a Microsoft Research project examining how to make technology more relevant in the classroom.  Pleasantly surprised by the initial response, teachers using the product had told Microsoft that student engagement and overall participation had gone up significantly.  In fact, it was so well received by students that in some classrooms, teachers took a student’s mouse—and ability to participate in Mouse Mischief lessons—away as punishment for bad behavior.  Considering this enthusiasm, Microsoft decided to build out Mouse Mischief as a more formal technology solution to be available to classrooms everywhere.

The ubiquity and low cost of mice as a common peripheral makes Mouse Mischief a cost-effective solution, especially given tight classroom budgets. And with Mouse Mischief, there’s no need for teachers to learn a new application – the seamless PowerPoint integration lets teachers make their content interactive quickly and painlessly.

Watching Mouse Mischief being used by a classroom full of students reveals other, unexpected benefits—for example, the ability to draw in shy or non-participative children.  In one school, a student who typically never raised his hand or participated, turned around 180 degrees and became one of the class’ biggest contributors after using Mouse Mischief. Getting all students to participate every time helps teachers have better visibility into the progress and comprehension of their class so they can adjust lessons on the spot.

Finally, one of the most exciting aspects of Mouse Mischief is the opportunity for educators to upload and share their own Mouse Mischief templates and curriculum.   Through the Multiple-Mouse community page they have created on Office.com, teachers can easily distribute and explore Mouse Mischief presentations.  This has the potential to empower a global social network of sharing and learning encompassing educators around the world, helping teachers find road-tested best practices to integrate into their curriculum.

Microsoft Tag no longer in Beta and 1 billion Tag printed

What a week! It’s great to be a Micrsoftee in the SBG group: Startup Business Group.

After launching a major update for Microsoft Hohm yesterday announcing an energy score for every single home in the country, today, it’s about Microsoft Tag.

Microsoft Tag is officially coming out of beta with 1 billion Tag out there, check out where you can find a Microsoft Tag:

 

Coming out of beta we’ve updated our website, the Tag Campaign Manager and improved our Tag Reader clients and also introduced some cool new features that will enhance customers’ ability to create, execute and track creative Tag campaigns:

  • A device ID feature will allow marketers to deliver a more personalized consumer experience across multiple Tags. For example, consumers can now receive customized content, such as a coupon or other offer from a retail outlet, based on Tags they’ve previously scanned
  • A new .tag file format will make it easier to print and manage a large number of different Tags as part of a broad campaign deployment. Developers of professional printing programs can now generate the Tag graphic on the fly as part of their solution
  • Tag has always been available worldwide and has been distributed and deployed globally. We have added localization in five new languages which include: French, Spanish, Turkish, Simplified Chinese, Italian
  • And finally, we will be introducing a beta Heat Map feature in the next few days, available in the Tag Campaign Manager, that will help companies better measure Tag usage by location and make more informed decisions about their Tag campaigns and overall marketing spend

Another great day, we’re proud to announce a major milestone from Microsoft hohm:

Starting today, more than 60 million homeowners will be able to answer one simple question: “Am I an energy hog or an energy miser?” Microsoft Corp. today announced the availability of the Hohm Score, an estimate of a home’s energy efficiency, offered as part the company’s free online home energy management tool, Microsoft Hohm. By simply typing in an address at http://www.microsoft-hohm.com, anyone can see the Hohm Score for almost any home in the United States.

“The Hohm Score provides an easy way for anyone to measure their home energy efficiency, and compare with others.  It’s important to note that the average Hohm Score here in the US is a failing grade,” said Troy Batterberry, product unit manager of Microsoft Hohm. “Fortunately, by making some simple changes to your household, consumers can easily achieve a passing mark, and save tens of billions of dollars each and every year.”

Hohm Scores are calculated by comparing a home’s actual and potential energy efficiency and is grounded with advanced analytics licensed from Lawrence Berkeley National Labs and statistical data from the Department of Energy. In addition to individual scores, Hohm Scores are available by zip code, city and state so anyone can compare their score with others around the country.

“The Hohm Score is the first step in helping us all make smarter decisions about our home energy use,” said Troy Batterberry, product unit manager of Microsoft Hohm. “If each of the 60 million households improved their Hohm Score by five points, collectively that would equal over $8 billion in savings a year.”

Hohm has established partnerships with utilities and the Ford Motor Co. and is actively working with these partners to realize a long-term vision of connecting just about anything that uses energy to help automate and optimize energy use for consumers.

Microsoft Hohm Going Green With Ford

Today, Ford Motor Company and Microsoft Corp. are leading the way toward a more energy-efficient future by announcing a new solution that will make electric vehicle ownership easier and more affordable for consumers.

The two companies are teaming up to implement the Microsoft Hohm™ energy management application for Ford’s electric vehicles. Ford is the first automaker announcing the use of Hohm, starting with the Focus Electric next year. Hohm will help owners determine when and how to most efficiently and affordably recharge battery electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles. It also should help utility companies manage the added demands of electric vehicles on the electrical grid.

“Ford and Microsoft both share a strong commitment to contributing to a better world. Today,
we begin the next major step in our working together and leading the way for energy efficiency and environmental sustainability,” said Alan Mulally, Ford Motor Company president and CEO. “For Ford, this is a needed step in the development of the infrastructure that will make electric vehicles viable.”

Both companies agree that effective management of the energy ecosystem is critical for electric vehicles to be successful and for consumer interest to grow. In a recent Accenture survey,
42 percent of consumers said they are likely to buy a hybrid or electric vehicle in the next two years.

Increasing numbers of electric vehicles, however, will have a significant impact on energy demand. That is because the addition of an electric vehicle to a household could effectively double home energy consumption while the vehicle is charging.

Ford and Microsoft agree that making energy management easy and affordable for consumers will be key to the success of electric vehicles in the marketplace as well as in creating a positive environmental impact.

“Electric vehicles will play an important role in the global effort to improve energy efficiency and address the issues of climate change and sustainability,” said Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO. “But as the market for electric vehicles expands, it will have a significant impact on home energy consumption and demand across the nation’s energy grid. With Microsoft Hohm, Ford and Microsoft will deliver a solution that will make it easier for car owners to make smart decisions about the most affordable and efficient ways to recharge electric vehicles, while giving utilities better tools for managing the expected changes in energy demand.”

Introducing Hohm to Ford’s electric vehicles supports Ford’s aggressive global electrification plan, which will put five new electrified vehicles on the road in North America and Europe by 2013. In North America, they include the Transit Connect Electric later this year, Focus Electric in 2011, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle and two next-generation hybrids in 2012.

America’s largest domestic hybrid seller, Ford Motor Company today has four hybrids on the road and another coming this year. They include the Ford Fusion Hybrid, Ford Escape Hybrid, Mercury Milan Hybrid and Mercury Mariner Hybrid. Also coming this fall is the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid, which is expected to be the most fuel-efficient luxury sedan in America.

Life with electrified vehicles – with full battery electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles needing to be recharged daily – will require consumers to change how they think about personal transportation and energy use.

Hohm, an internet-based service, is designed to help customers avoid unnecessary expense by providing insight into their energy usage patterns and suggesting recommendations to increase conservation. With Ford electric vehicles, Hohm also will help drivers to determine the best time to charge their vehicle. Smart recharging habits will help utility companies understand and better manage the increased demands placed upon the electrical grid because of electrified vehicles.

Ford and Microsoft’s participation in the Hohm program builds on the success of their decade-long partnership to provide customers with superior in-car experiences. The Ford SYNC communications and infotainment system, built on the Windows Embedded Automotive platform, has been installed on more than 2 million Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles since its launch in 2007, helping drivers connect and voice-control their mobile devices while driving.

Microsoft Hohm is available today for free to all U.S. residential energy consumers and has multiple partnerships with utilities and other stakeholders already in place. Ford is the first automaker to join in collaboration with Hohm.

Ford and Microsoft also plan to continue to work with utility partners and municipalities to help further develop the energy ecosystem. Ford’s work includes collaboration with a dozen North American energy companies to road-test a fleet of 21 Ford Escape plug-in hybrid vehicles.
The research has accumulated more than 160,000 miles of real-world data, which provided important groundwork for the new Hohm application.

Blogging less! Yes for Social networks…

Blogging less! Why? Spending more and more time on social networks like Twitter and Facebook and others social networks to share my updates and interesting news. I’ve found these mediums a much better and efficient way to share news across my networks and also a better way to read those.
